New Comics This Week!

Ready to take a closer look at some of the new comics we have this week at Game Haven Sandy? Come by and take a look at dozens of exciting titles, including these new issues you’ll enjoy!

Batman #30

From DC: “THE BALLAD OF KITE MAN” part two! In our second “War of Jokes and Riddles” interlude, it’s the making of a super-villain! He’s been pushed by Batman to snitch on The Joker, and cajoled by The Joker to betray Batman—now, the flunky who would be Kite Man finally snaps. He’s lost everything, and a life of crime is the only way to go.

Dave says: Kite Man. Yeah, you read that right. But Part 1 was actually pretty interesting, and this will be, too. We’re not done with the War of Jokes and Riddles yet, either, and this will give us more backstory on where that’s headed as well. For new or veteran readers, this is a great book to be following.

Bombshells United #1

From DC: The Bombshells are back in an all-new series! As our new tale begins, the year is 1943, and Wonder Woman is called to Arizona for help by two young girls named Cassie Sandsmark and Donna Troy! The girls’ friends and families are being displaced from their homes and forced into internment camps! To save them, can Wonder Woman fight against the same people she once fought alongside?

Dave says: If you needed an excuse to try out Bombshells, here it is! They’re starting a new series at #1, and as you can see from the description, already promising to bring some new characters into this unusual but entertaining universe. Come grab a copy and see for yourself!

Justice League #28

From DC: “LEGACY” part three! An outside threat has followed the League’s children back from the future in order to destroy them. His name is Arthur Curry, and he will not stop until they are all dead!

Dave says: Why would Aquaman come back to the past to kill all of the children of the Justice League?? If you’re thinking there must be more to this, you’re right. We should still have parts 1 and 2 on the shelf as well- grab your copies and catch up!

Astonishing X-Men #3

From Marvel: SHADOW KING SHOWDOWN! The X-MEN continue their fight against the SHADOW KING! But when OLD MAN LOGAN loses himself in the ASTRAL PLANE and Shadow King’s illusions, will he ever find his way back to his teammates? AND WHAT OTHER HORRORS AWAIT OUR TEAM?

Dave says: Seeing old school X-Men characters come back in the current X titles has been great, and this arc with the Shadow King is worth a read. Old Man Logan is always fun, and the writers here have a good feel for his character. I’ve said this before, but if you’re a longtime fan of the X-Men, you really can’t go wrong with their current titles. And if you’re just coming on board, these are great books to start out with!

Jessica Jones #12

From Marvel: The secrets of Maria Hill are revealed, and the Marvel Universe will never be the same again! Has Jessica opened a door that she can now never close? How will it affect the other Defenders?

Dave says: Jessica Jones probably isn’t the best choice for younger readers, but fans of the Netflix show, or The Defenders,  or her previous titles should enjoy this noir-style book from Bendis. The general feel of the character should still be on point for those who only know her from Netflix.

Speaking of younger readers…

Star Wars Adventures #1

From IDW: Introducing an exciting new era in all-ages Star Wars comics! Each issue in this monthly series will feature two stories, starring your favorite Star Wars characters from all the films! This debut issue will reveal Rey’s early adventures on Jakku as well as a comical tale of clone catastrophe!

Dave says: As the blurb above mentions, each comic will have two different stories in it, and IDW has promised they will focus mostly on fan favorite characters. They’re also touting there will be “in canon” stories here, in case older readers want to take a look, but this is a book meant for younger readers. We’ve had more requests for this kind of title at Game Haven recently, so come check it out!

As always, this is just a sampling. We get lots of new comics each week- as well as some great trade paperbacks (collections of several comics as one affordable book), collectibles, and more. New to comics? Want to start a hold box at Game Haven Sandy? Wondering what your favorite characters from the movies have been up to lately? Come talk to us, we have what you need!
