How was your holiday? Was it amazing? Was it pretty good, but it could have used a few more comics? Would you have said it could use a few more comics no matter what? Game Haven in Sandy has you covered!
We still have a lot of great trade paperback collections and Pop! figures if you’re looking for a gift for someone you haven’t seen yet this week, or if you just want to grab a few things for yourself. As always, we have all the newest comics this week, too. Here’s a few highlights to come pick up.
From DC: It’s the holiday season in Burnside, and everyone is getting into the spirit…including Harley Quinn! After the maid of mischief infects Barbara Gordon’s company party with a killer virus, Batgirl must embark on a wild-goose chase around the city to find a cure. The clock’s ticking—will our hero save the day in time?
Dave says: It might feel slightly out of place, compared to what Harley has been up to in her own comic and Suicide Squad, but this is still a fun, one shot story of Batgirl vs Harley. What more could you want for the holidays?
From DC: “A Cold Day in Hell” part two! The new crime lord of Central City has been revealed…and it’s worse than The Flash ever imagined! Betrayed by a former friend and trapped in Iron Heights prison with no escape in sight—will The Flash be too late to save his city from disaster?
Dave says: Captain Cold! Cold has always been one of the best- if not the best- Rogue, right? DC has put more of an emphasis on the classic Rogues we love to hate, recently, with promising results. Flash remains one of the better Rebirth comics. If you’re mostly familiar with The Flash and his villains from the TV show, Snart will seem “different but the same” here.
Justice League of America #21
From DC: “AGAINST THE INVISIBLE GOD”! The Ray quits the Justice League to return to his hometown of Vanity, only to discover that a new hero has taken his place as the city’s protector! To make matters worse, an ancient evil God has been unleashed upon Vanity…and the Ray himself is responsible!
Dave says: If you’ve been reading the main Justice League title, but haven’t picked this one up, give it a try. It’s a fun read about the “other” Justice League. Batman, Lobo, and Black Canary are just a few of the familiar faces you’ll see. The Ray is one of those characters that’s been around a long time, but isn’t as well known. Fans of the CW Arrowverse may recognize him from the recent 4 part crossover, though. This week is a great spot to pick up JLA for a new ongoing title.
Despicable Deadpool #291
From Marvel: Wait – did you think the title of this story was a joke? IT’S NOT. This month DEADPOOL ACTUALLY KILLS CABLE. Seriously. And his new best buddy, Stryfe, could not be happier about it! Join Deadpool as he continues his journey back to the dark side!
Dave says: Two things. One, as always, all the caps are from Marvel, not me. So you know they must be pretty excited about these books, right? Also, as mentioned in the past, don’t let the issue number throw you off. We’re still in “Legacy” numbering for now here on the Marvel side, but this is still a great time to pick up a comic about your favorite Marvel characters without worrying about what happened before. They do a great job giving you a recap if you come into a story in progress.
With all of that out of the way… Deadpool, Cable, and Stryfe! If you were reading comics in the 90’s, this story arc is one you want to read. If you just love Deadpool and want to read more about him, this series rarely disappoints.
Jessica Jones #15
From Marvel: RETURN OF THE PURPLE MAN Part 3! The Purple Man is back–and he’s wreaking havoc across the Marvel Universe! What curious thing does he want from Jessica Jones, and can she escape his horror? From the original creators of Jessica Jones comes the most terrifying villain return of the year!
Dave says: I’m not sure I can add much more to this one. If you read Alias, or watched the Netflix series Jessica Jones, you have a pretty good idea of how much The Purple Man coming back impacts Jessica. So what are you waiting for?
Phoenix Resurrection: The Return Of Jean Grey #1
From Marvel: She will return, like a Phoenix from the ashes. Years ago, Jean Grey died and the X-Men mourned her. Since then, the world has changed, her teammates have lived without her and died without her. And now, when strange events start happening all over the world, those teammates can only come to one conclusion – the one true Jean Grey is back!
Dave says: A few weeks ago, I highlighted an issue from the Jean Grey series, and discussed how it had a fairly important event inside. Well, here’s the follow up to that. Marvel has teased us with this several times over the years, but it looks like the original Jean Grey is really coming back. All fans of X-Men- 90’s cartoon, comics, movies, whatever- should pick this up and get excited about the possible story lines this could bring us.
Again, these are just a few highlights. Game Haven Sandy has lots of new titles from DC, Marvel, Image, Dark Horse, and more. Come visit us to set up a hold box, buy a fistful of comics, or see what we have with your favorite superheroine on the cover! Till next time, Happy New Year!
